Getting payments to record themselves

Android — notification capture (recommended)

Open Settings → Transaction Capture in Lekhya and turn on notification access. Android will take you to a system screen where you grant Lekhya permission to read notifications. After that, when your bank or UPI app posts a payment alert, Lekhya files it automatically.

If nothing is being captured: confirm the permission is still granted (some phones revoke it after an update or when battery optimisation kicks in), and check that your bank's alerts actually appear in your notification shade — Lekhya can only see what your phone shows you.

iPhone — share or copy

Apple does not let any app read your Messages or another app's notifications. This is an iOS restriction and applies to every app, not just Lekhya. On iPhone you have four ways:

Adding a spend in one tap

Both platforms: touch and hold the Lekhya icon on your home screen and pick "Add expense" or "Add income".

From the Lock Screen — on Android, turn on Settings → Lock screen quick-add and a silent, permanent shortcut sits in your notification shade. On iPhone, touch and hold the Lock Screen → Customise → Add widgets → Lekhya.

A message that isn't recognised

Use Settings → Teach Lekhya. Paste a sample message and Lekhya learns the pattern for that bank. You can review and edit everything it knows under Taught patterns.

Lekhya Pro

What is free, and what Pro adds

Capture, transactions, analytics, the monthly budget, recurring detection, Money Story, reminders, backups, App Lock, dark mode, the green/blue theme, the Android widget, and both languages are all free.

Pro (₹249, one time, forever) adds per-category budgets, custom categories, bill/EMI and SIP/FD reminders, the savings and investment trackers, split groups, CSV import and the year-in-review Money Story.

Everything is free to try for 7 days from install. There is nothing to cancel — the trial simply ends.

I paid but Pro isn't showing

Settings → Restore purchase. This asks the store whether your account owns Pro and re-enables it. It works after a reinstall or on a new phone, as long as you are signed in with the same Google or Apple account you bought with.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple, not by us — we never receive your payment directly. Contact the store you bought from. If your problem is something we can fix, please write to us first.

Your data

Backing up

Settings → Backup → export an encrypted .lkh file. You choose a passphrase; the file is useless to anyone without it. Keep it wherever you like — cloud storage is fine, because the file is encrypted before it leaves the app.

Restoring

Settings → Backup → Restore, or simply open a .lkh file on your phone and choose Lekhya. You will be asked for the passphrase.

Moving to a new phone

Export a backup on the old phone, install Lekhya on the new one, restore. Your data is deliberately excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer, so this manual step is the only way — and that is the point.

Importing holdings

Gold and silver, stocks, mutual funds and fixed deposits can be imported from CSV (Pro). The exact column formats are documented in the app's import screen, which also previews every row and flags errors before anything is saved.

Deleting everything

Delete individual entries in the app, or uninstall Lekhya to remove all of it. Since nothing was ever uploaded, there is no account to close and no server-side copy to request the deletion of.

Common questions

Why does the app have no internet permission?

Because it does not need one, and because removing it turns a promise into a fact. Check Settings → Apps → Lekhya → Permissions on Android and you will not find one. See the security page for the full explanation.

Then how do purchases work?

Google Play and the App Store handle the payment in their app, in their own process. Lekhya only receives a yes or no. See the privacy policy.

Does Lekhya connect to my bank?

No. It never asks for bank credentials and could not use them if you gave them. It reads the alerts and messages already on your phone, and nothing else.

Can I use it in Hindi?

Yes — Settings → Language. The whole app is translated, and it is independent of your phone's language, so you can run a Hindi Lekhya on an English phone.

Where are dark mode and the app colour?

Settings → Language & Appearance. Both are free.

I found a bug

Please tell us what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead, plus your phone model and Android/iOS version. That is usually enough. Again — no screenshots of real financial data, please.
